Testimonials

Belinda Salcedo (IBMS student)

"My name is Belinda Salcedo and currently I am studying IBMS at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven. I was born in the Netherlands, but I have lived for several years in Spain. The reason for coming back to the Netherlands was that I was really interested in IBMS. My studies offer the possibility to go abroad and are focused on an international environment".

"During the semesters, I discovered my interest in economics and decided to do something with this. Now I know what I want and it makes it a lot easier for me to follow that direction. IBMS offers a wide variety of business subjects, and you can end up working in many business fields. It is not all about studying the subjects; you also have a part which involves working on yourself. You will participate in various lectures of personal leadership and ethics. During your studies, you will learn how to deal with other cultures and even how to deal with yourself. In the end it all depends on your motivation, Fontys sets the challenge and it is up to you to do something with it".

Valentina Janevska (IBMS graduate)

"While I was studying at Fontys I had the opportunity to be part of many enjoyable assignments with student from all around the world and I realized how crucial it is to understand the cultural barriers. With these assignments, the valuable learning practice and the interactive workshops I gained valuable practical knowledge and I significantly extended my professional network. Due to this unique and great study experience I was well prepared for the competitive business world. All the skills I learned at Fontys now I can apply at Philips".

"Currently I am working as Business Intelligence Consultant where am being assigned to different projects, tasks and working cross sector. Working for a big multinational company like Philips means having colleagues from all around the world which is really similar like my study experience. One important skill that significantly contributes to my professional behavior is being a valuable team player. Thanks to the IBMS program I considerably developed many professional and soft skills that I apply in my everyday job".

Job Arts (teacher IBMS)

"My name is Job Arts and I am a lecturer at IBMS responsible for Asian Business Studies, where students get hands-on experience of doing business with Asia. I also teach international business, intercultural management and work as a consultant for companies, the European Commission and the World Bank".

"For me ‘thinking bigger’ means every time translating my work experience in 30 countries into the classroom. In particular it means taking students out of their traditional way of thinking and challenging them through ‘real life’ international assignments. International business is hard work and requires a strong focus. Students have to learn this".

"In my view 'thinking bigger' also requires 'acting smaller', which means having an eye for individual student needs. The IBMS students at Fontys come from 52 different countries and they all go through a process of adjustment. From my own experience I know how difficult it is to settle abroad. I notice that in IBMS we care about these students. We support their development through an individual leadership program. That is for me 'thinking bigger' and 'acting smaller' in the best possible way".
